Good Friday is an important religious holiday celebrated by many Christians around the world. This day is celebrated as a remembrance of the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ in Calvary. Good Friday is celebrated during Holy Week, a week-long Christian holiday whose main purpose is to commemorate the passion and death of Jesus. 

Although this event is referred to as the “Good” Friday, the mood for this day is all about mourning the death of Jesus on the cross. Many traditional Christian churches even cover any image of Jesus inside the churches from the afternoon of Good Friday, and it’s only removed on Easter Sunday.

Christian tradition calls this Friday the Good Friday because this mourning of the death of Jesus Christ eventually led to His glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. This Friday is referred to as “good” because it’s the ultimate sacrifice of God The Father to humanity. By sending His only son Jesus Christ on Earth to die on the cross, humanity is given the chance to live better lives, free from the bondage of sin.

For Christians, Jesus’ death on the cross gave way to salvation- a chance to enjoy heaven and the life after death.
